Romans 11:29 states that the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. This shows that God is a consistent God. Like a dormant volcano, the gifts of God may lie latent in a life for a long time, but the moment an individual engages them, everything comes back to life. It is not only the gifts and callings of God that are constant; so are His plans. For example, the original intent of God for mankind did not change over time. From the beginning, God made man in His own image, His representation here on earth. Making man in His own image is to make man share His divine attributes with Him. This enviable position, which the first Adam lost, the second Adam restored.
The more we partake of His nature, the greater His power flows through our lives. More of His nature also means more effectiveness in our duty as ambassadors of God on earth.
From our text, Apostle Peter makes it clear that God rescued us from Satan, sin, and corruption so that we might partake in His divine nature. This reinforces the truth we stated before: God’s original plan was for humanity to bear His image and represent Him on earth. Growing in God-likeness allows us to become effective spokespersons on earth. The more we partake of His nature, the greater His power flows through our lives. More of His nature also means more effectiveness in our duty as ambassadors of God on earth. The Holy Spirit is the means by which we transition into God’s likeness.
