An indisputable attribute of God is His faithfulness. To describe one as being faithful, among other things, is to say that he is true to his words. You can expect that God will always stand by His word and bring to pass every promise He makes. When God called Abraham, He promised to bless him and his seeds. Abraham’s choice of obedient lifestyle made it all the more compelling for God to honour His own side of the deal. No wonder, our text shows that God blessed Abraham in all things.
“The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
In order to demonstrate His faithfulness to the full extent of the promise, it is important for God to bless the children of Abraham too. The extension of that promise is what the Jews all over the world are still enjoying today. It is important to say that the promise is open also to the children of Abraham by faith. When the righteous are blessed, it is a proof of God’s righteousness. “The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing, to declare that the Lord is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him (Psalm 92:12-15).
