Cases of travesty of justice is becoming rather too common in America and everywhere else in the world. There have been cases of people that the system locked behind bars, robbing them of their prime, only to discover later that they had convicted innocent persons. One of such cases was that of Anthony Ray Hinton, a black man who spent 30 years of his life on death row. He was arrested and charged for a two-count first-degree murder. He tried to protest his innocence to the detective who arrested him. Surprisingly, the officer said that he didn’t care whether he shot the victim or not, but he was going to make sure he was convicted. He went to provide several reasons why he would be convicted. From the officer who arrested him to the man who would testify against him to the judge and the jury, all were white.

…that someone did you wrong doesn’t make it right to do them wrong in return…God’s judicial system is perfect, and His judgment is in righteousness. This is one of the hopes of believers.

After 30 years behind bars, a retrial took place after new evidence emerged. He was then set free. Anthony pinned his survival to what his mama taught him. Lesson one: his mother often told him, “I never raised you to be a quitter”. Lesson two: “bitterness kills the soul”. He grew to learn that the fact that someone did you wrong doesn’t make it right to do them wrong in return. Anthony beat the imperfect human system and survived what could have killed or at least deranged him. Our text offers a better hope. God’s judicial system is perfect, and His judgment is in righteousness. This is one of the hopes of believers.
