There are children of God who have little or no expectation for success in life. Their take is that all that matters is having a good walk with God here on earth and make heaven happily someday. They do not think that success is a part of the salvation package. One line of scripture that can bring a reset of belief is what Paul said about godliness or life in God. “For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.” I Timothy 4:8 NKJV. Knowing God pays in this life and the one to come; it is our faulty theology that makes us think otherwise.
Our text for meditation makes a strong case for success. In a sense, becoming successful meets God’s “need”. Let me first illustrate. I have children who have passed through different institutions in their educational pursuit. Each time they sat for exams and passed, readying them for another phase, I got excited. My wife would often tease me that I have not paid tuition and other fees in vain. You are yet to see a father unhappy because the children are doing well in their pursuits. It is lack of progress among their wards that is often a cause of frustration to parents. Now, see God in the light of a father; and He is one indeed. The Bible actually describes Him as the Father of spirits. He reacts to our progress the same way an earthly parent responds when his children succeed. From the standpoint of Psalm 35:27 God is pleased with the success of His people.
