An important lesson that we can glean from Jesus is giving attention to details. He showed the disciples how to locate the chamber for the Last Supper. Prior to that, He sent them to go and bring the donkey from a village junction. He furnished them with the necessary answer should anyone challenge them in the course of their duty. We also see His attention to details in how He put the care of His mother in the hand of John before He breathed His last on the cross. “When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “The Woman, behold your son!” Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home.” (John 19:26-27)
On a larger scale, the future of the Church and the welfare of the disciples were not left to chance either. The Master assured them that the Holy Spirit would come in His stead. Unlike the case of human representatives, the Spirit would come in the full power and authority of Christ such that they would miss nothing. That Spirit has been here since Pentecost. Even though Jesus is absent physically, He is actually present with us in the person of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is both willing and able to do what Jesus would have done were He to be here physically. Individuals who have committed their souls to Christ have a secure future. The gates of hell can never prevail against the plans and purposes of God.
