On December 2, 2015 a lion escaped from its enclosure at the wildlife park in Dong community, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria. It was immediately gunned down before it could cause harm to people around. Authorities regret the loss of one of the tourist attractions to the park but had no other option. I do not know how long the lion had been in the park, but what is certain is that as long as it kept within its allotted space, it was safe and visitors had fun. However, it was cut down the day it stepped out of bounds. This brings out the lesson of our text. The nest is both for the safety and comfort of the bird. The day it leaves its nest, it becomes vulnerable to predators.
It is a hoax thinking that we will fare better in our self-appointed places.
The graver implication of our text is that it likens a wandering man to a bird out of its nest – he is vulnerable. So we understand that man has his place too. A man who is in his God-ordained place enjoys provision and protection. He has providence tending to all of his affairs. Outside of this, he might live aimlessly without anything to show for his existence. To move from our place of assignment and destiny is to court trouble. God
sent Jonah to Nineveh, but he chose Tarshish instead. All he had for that step was tales of woes. Everyone must ask God for their place in life and destiny. In addition, we must be contented with wherever God has chosen for us. It is a hoax thinking that we will fare better in our self-appointed places. God knows the best place for everyone.
