And in all your getting, get understanding.” Proverbs 4:7 NKJV. The writer went on to detail the blessings that will flow from getting wisdom. They include promotion and honour, grace and glory. Our immediate focus is to learn how to get the wisdom that is so eloquently recommended. Our approach is to examine the life of someone who demonstrated wisdom. Our text states that as far as wisdom was concerned, Daniel towered above the wise men of Babylon on a scale of ten to one. How did Daniel access such level of wisdom?

Firstly, we must focus our attention on his life of consecration. When he and his colleagues were recruited into the king’s service, they were offered a portion of the king’s meal but they refused to partake of it because the meal had a tint of idolatry. They chose conformity with the law of God above their pleasure. Secondly, Daniel was a man of prayer. Even at the risk of losing his life, he prayed three times a day. Finally, Daniel was a man of scriptures. “In the first year of his reign I, Daniel, understood by the books the number of the years specified by the word of the Lord through Jeremiah the prophet, that He would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.” Daniel 9:2 NKJV. The Bible enjoins us to follow in the footsteps of those who have obtained. If we do what Daniel did, we also will be blessed with wisdom beyond compare.
