After becoming born again, the next most important thing for a Christian is training to know the voice of God. Psalm 29 details a lot of powerful things that the voice of God makes happen. If we are ignorant of this voice, we risk losing the benefits attached. It has to be said that it takes some maturing to be conversant with God’s voice. Consider how God tried to get across to Samuel. He called Samuel three times, and on each occasion, the boy ran to Eli. Eli had to aid his understanding and taught him the necessary response should the voice sound again. God did call the fourth time; and at that time Samuel was ready for Him.
“Unless the mind undergoes daily renewal by the Word, it will not be able to handle the things of God.”
That brings us to something else – God will not speak until He finds us ready. He kept calling until Samuel was ready. That’s a demonstration of love; for it is only love that is patient, bears all things and hopes all things. Not even when God was displeased with His people did He fail to speak in love. He may warn; but still in love. Rarely will you see God resort to threats. This is an acid test for knowing the force behind the voice you hear. If you take time to deal with certain impairments, God’s voice will become clearer. The flesh employs feelings to speak. This cannot constitute an adequate guide in life Another thing that impairs sensitivity to the voice of God is the voice of the mind. The mind speaks primarily through reason and logic. That could be limiting. The mind must constantly undergo renewal through the word and Spirit. Unless the mind undergoes daily renewal by the Word, it will not be able to handle the things of God.
