I only have a basic understanding of science and technology. So, I find it hard to explain how some things work. An example is the Global Positioning System or GPS for short. It is a pocket sized device that helps us to navigate.
In my recent visit to the U. S. this July, I asked someone to tell me how it works. With base maps, the system links up with satellites and helps to determine where you are and how to get to where you are going. My first direct contact with GPS was many years ago. A brother picked me up at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, Illinois. Entering his car, he entered the address of our destination, and immediately, with the aid of a readable map on the screen and an audible voice, we began to receive directions, showing a combination of possible routes that led to our destination.
We have discussed guidance and choices in the last couple of days. If human beings could devise means of guidance, God also must have a positioning system in place to direct His children. One lesson of spiritual significance is this: we could not have been guided by a GPS except we had one in the car. The brother who chauffeured me subscribed to that service by purchasing one. Similarly, God’s positioning system works for those who subscribe to it. You may be wondering how one can subscribe to God’s GPS. That’s what Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” (NKJV)
