Our previous meditation established that God orders both the steps and stops of the righteous. As long as we have integrity, we can be sure that God will guide us right. The starting point is seeking the Lord’s view on all subjects, thinking matters through before arriving at a decision. In our text, Joseph wanted to separate from Mary, but he was not going to rush such an important decision. He weighed his options carefully, and it was in the course of doing that that he received divine instruction. We may not have dramatic encounters like Joseph’s, but we can trust God to stop us from any course that would be injurious to our destiny.
In 2004, I had plans to erect another facility for our children’s church. My idea was to de-roof the office block at Rumuokoro, Port Harcourt, and have it decked two floors up. The office block was at the back of the auditorium. It seemed good to me until I consulted a minister of the Gospel who once practiced architecture. He first gave me the financial implication of such a step; that it could cost between twenty-four to thirty million naira. He thought that any structure that would gulp such money should add to the overall beauty of the compound, and not a backyard facility. Instead, he suggested that we put up a simple hall in a distinct portion of the land. That’s what we did. The hall cost a great amount of money. It was then I realized that God had sent the architect-minister to stop me from an unwise step. He was my God-sent angel. If you submit to God, He will not watch you in your error.
