In our previous meditation, we acknowledged the role of prayer in dealing with intimidation. Prayer comes handy in other areas as well. By it we gain direction and understand the will of God. It is also through prayer that we obtain the strength for execution. However, not all prayers appeal to God. Heaven only responds to prayers that are appealing. Shortly after Solomon mounted the throne, God asked him to request for whatever he wanted. He asked for wisdom. Consider how God viewed his request: “The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.” I Kings 3:10 NKJV. Because the request pleased the Lord, not only was it granted, but other things like riches and honour were added.
Heaven only responds to prayers that are appealing…Effective prayer stems from what God told you…Only what proceeds from God and is processed back to Him via prayer is guaranteed.
Our text reveals another secret of the prayer that appeals to God – God’s prophetic word. David drew strength for prayer from what God told him through the prophet. Effective prayer stems from what God told you. Much of what goes on in the name of prayers are not more than wishful thinking or personal desires. While there may be nothing wrong with these, their answers are not guaranteed. Only what proceeds from God and is processed back to Him via prayer is guaranteed.
