The parting mandate of Jesus to the disciples was to go into all the world and preach the gospel. About the best way to do this is to preach the gospel through lifestyle evangelism. There is what is called passive smoking. It defines a scenario where non-smokers inhale smoke from tobacco product just by being around tobacco users. If you wonder if that holds any significance, then check this statistics. Approximately, 600, 000 people die annually as a result of passive smoking. Can we from this develop the idea of passive evangelism? Can non-believers “inhale” the sweet fragrance of Christ just by sharing office space with us? You have probably found yourself locked up in an elevator or some other cubicle with someone wearing a kind of wonderful cologne. When you stepped out, the fragrance of the cologne could still be found on you. On the spiritual side, Paul noted that this is what our lives ought to be. “Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God. But this fragrance is perceived differently by those who are being saved and by those who are perishing.” 2 Corinthians 2:15 NLT
In His teaching on the mount, Jesus described the disciples as salt and light. Salt is for seasoning and preservation. Light brings illumination and repels darkness. He added that the light of His followers should shine bright enough for others to see and be drawn to the Father. Communicating Christianity in a non-verbal way was also the counsel of Peter to women married to unbelieving husbands. Through unassailable godly lifestyle, he wanted them to win their husbands. As opportunities to knock on doors keeps shrinking, be intentional to preach Jesus by the way you talk, dress, and handle the affairs of life. You are indeed an epistle being read by the world.
