The awesomeness of God is taught in several portions of the Bible. While reprimanding Belshazzar for disrespecting holy vessels, Daniel drew a parallel between the God of Israel and other gods. “And you have lifted yourself up against the Lord of heaven. They have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you and your Lords, your wives and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, bronze and iron, wood and stone, which do not see or hear or know; and the God who holds your breath in His hand and owns all your ways, you have not glorified.” Daniel 5:23 NKJV. The gods of silver, gold, bronze, iron, wood and stone do not see, hear, or know. That means our God sees, hears, and knows.
God sees, hears, and knows…far beyond what human mind can fathom…God knows the number of the stars! It is no longer surprising to hear Jesus say that the Father knows the number of hairs on our head.
Our text captures the knowledge of God far beyond what human mind can fathom. God knows the number of the stars and has names for all of them. Precisely, about how many stars do we have up there? Scientists do not have the actual figure, but the estimation they came up with is mind-blowing. It is said that stars are not just scattered in space at random, rather they are in large constellations known as galaxies. The sun belongs to a galaxy called the Milky Way and is reported to have about 100 thousand million stars in it alone. Then it is estimated that there are multiple millions of other galaxies as well. Imagine if each of the galaxies has as much as the Milky Way does, then the number is totally mesmerizing. As confusing as this is to our finite mind, the Bible says God knows the number of the stars! It is no longer surprising to hear Jesus say that the Father knows the number of hairs on our head.
