Yesterday, I related two lessons learned on the heel of a missed flight. Today’s meditation is about another flight, only that I didn’t miss it on that occasion, but the airline cancelled it. As one would expect, passengers were upset when they heard of flight cancelation and for good reasons too. One young boy was due for an important exam two days away. He had planned to enter UK by evening of Monday and write the exam on Tuesday. For him it was a blow. A lady held the lock to important documents for her boss. The documents were so important that the boss got so desperate to have her back. So the frustration of the people was understandable. But one man in particular threatened fire and brimstone. He literally wanted to bring down the roof of the airport. So bizarre was his behavior that the station manager had to put the security operatives on notice.
“Always remember this: whenever you act or speak, you are dispensing something; but it is only when you dispense the fragrance of Christ that the world is better for it.”
The following day, we were brought early to the airport for check-in formalities from the hotel where they kept us. One of the staff saw me and remarked: Sir, I saw you yesterday; you were very calm”. I was satisfied that I had shown forth the fragrance of Christ even in a frustrating situation. Imagine if I had been unduly lousy, fighting everybody in the way. Worse still, imagine I had behaved or talked unseemly and they later got to know I was a Pastor! By being calm under pressure, they saw something different. Had they asked me the reason for my form, I would simply have told them it’s Christ who gave me such strength. Our calling is to live in such a way as to model Christ to the world and make them willing to embrace our God. Always remember this: whenever you act or speak, you are dispensing something; but it is only when you dispense the fragrance of Christ that the world is better for it.
