God going before His people as seen from our text, what does it mean? Guidance, of course. Several blessings results when God guides. Invariably, God’s guidance makes clear the path to walk in. In our previous meditation, we learned how God guided the wise men. Though they had a momentary misadventure into Herod’s palace, God guided the way until they came to where Jesus was. Guidance has always been an area of God’s interest towards His people. You would recall that when He delivered them from the Egyptian bondage He led them by the path of the Red Sea, and not through the territory of the Philistines which was shorter.

When God guides in the way to go, He also takes care of obstacles strewn along. As He led the children of Israel, all obstacles on the path – namely, the Red Sea, the River Jordan, the wall of Jericho, and others – were dealt with decisively. From our text, there is a third blessing flowing from guidance; that is, rain of refreshing. In Bible parlance, rain symbolizes blessing, supplies, peace, and refreshing. God desires to be involved in every detail of our lives. Psalm 48:14 says, “For this is God, Our God forever and ever; He will be our guide Even to death.” God’s commitment to guide His people is as long as life shall last. Keep acknowledging Him in all your ways; He shall surely direct your paths.
