Faith is not optional in walking with God. It is a must-have to draw down on His power in various aspects of life. Mark records the story of a distressed father who brought his son to Jesus. Reading from chapter 9, verses 14 through 27 the desperate man said to Jesus, “but if Thou canst do anything, have compassion on us, and help us.” After Jesus assured him of help if only he could believe, the man again said, with tears, “Lord, I believe; help Thou mine unbelief.” That Jesus healed his son is proof that He helped the man’s faith, just as he requested. The point to remember is this: the promises of God can only be received through faith. Unfortunately, our faith level, many times, fall far short of the required minimum for obtaining the promise. It is at such moments that God in His mercy creates ways to boost our faith.
In our text, Abram got a faith booster when God made him look skyward to the stars. Two things are worthy of note in this faith exercise. Firstly, God was working on Abram to create what he needed first in the spirit realm. Whatever is not located first in the spirit cannot become a reality on earth. Secondly, God was giving a faith picture of the future to Abram. Every night Abram walked the street and saw the stars, he was reminded of how numerous his offspring would be. That became his faith anchor. Years passed but God’s promise remained. Once God has spoken, it is considered done from heaven’s standpoint. We are the one to commence the build-up of our faith until it comes to physical manifestation.
