Numan remains one of the few places in the northern parts of Nigeria where Islam does not have a pervading influence. An evidence of this is that the king is not called an Emir but His Royal Highness. The king of Numan himself is a believer. Tradition has it that one of the forefathers of the land, a warrior, had predicted before his death that a whiteman would come to them, and he should be received and not killed. That was over a century ago. The whiteman indeed came to them and became the purveyor of Christianity in the land and its environs.
The testimony of the enemies is a confirmation of the ownership of the Church – Christ. The Church is a divine institution that no man can lay claim to. The Church of Jesus is indestructible, and so are individual constituents of the Church.
Several attempts were made by Islamic crusaders to overrun the land, but they had always been warded off. On one occasion, they invaded in the night in order to set ablaze one of the most iconic church buildings. On approach, they saw a vision of a figure stretching from earth into the heavens. They concluded that must be the owner of the church protecting it by Himself. They disappeared in a hurry. The testimony of the enemies is a confirmation of the ownership of the Church – Christ. The Church is a divine institution that no man can lay claim to. In addition, the assurance of Christ is underscored, that He would build His Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. The Church of Jesus is indestructible, and so are individual constituents of the Church. Those who belong to Christ can be at peace that His tender eyes are watching over them. He even promised that the hairs of our heads are numbered. God cares for the minutest details of our lives.
