A survey of the scriptures shows that God took pride in some people. He prided in Abraham. He later called him His friend. Here is what was said concerning Abraham: “For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice, that the Lord may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.”” (Genesis 18:19 NKJV). God’s conviction of what Abraham was capable of was why He gave him divine disclosure. Also, it is on record that God prided in Job when Satan sauntered into the general assembly of God’s sons. Our text for today’s meditation can be seen in the light of God passing a vote of confidence on Caleb.
Caleb enjoyed divine endorsement because of the minority report which he and Joshua brought concerning the Promised Land. When 10 of the spies brought a negative report of the land and discouraged the hearts of the people, Caleb and Joshua stood out. It was a costly stand as the congregation wanted to stone them. The cause for what the people sought to stone them was what put them in good stead with God. What is playing out in our text is God’s promise to reward anyone who is faithful to His cause. Both Caleb and Joshua survived the destruction in the wilderness and entered the fullness of Canaan’s blessing. There is a divine prize for holding on to the word of God and integrity.
