It was in April of 2003. I had just returned from a trip and by some twist escaped another one. So I decided to spend quality time with the children. We kicked off the day with prayer before doing a tour of the city. On our way, my second son saw a house and was dazzled by its colour. “That’s the colour I will use for my house”, he said. I cautioned that he should at least build the house first before thinking of which colour of paint to apply. He reiterated confidently, “I will build my house”. He was about 11 years at the time.
There is no reason to lose the dreams, because they are the true drivers of life. Every stage of life can be fruitful, if only we retain our ability to dream.
Jesus taught the disciples that no one would gain access to the kingdom unless they are converted and become as children. What is it about children that Jesus made them a gauge? They are simple-minded. They are believing. Children could trust their parents even for the seemingly ridiculous. That is the type of trust that we should put in our Heavenly Father to be partakers of kingdom’s treasures. Another fact about children is that they are dreamers. When my son said he was going to build his house, he was inadvertently engaging the power of dream. Every adult you see today has once dreamt of riding their cars and owning houses. They dreamt of marrying and raising a family. When a few setbacks are recorded in life, many cast away their dreams. There is no reason to lose the dreams, because they are the true drivers of life. Every stage of life can be fruitful, if only we retain our ability to dream. It is about time we prayed with Wanda Jackson in her song, “Make me like a Child Again”.
