Yesterday, we identified prayer as one of the key activities of the Apostles and the entire church. Prayer is an essential part of a believer’s walk with God. It is one of the activities that create the atmosphere of heaven in our earthly domain. When done in the right spirit, prayer makes available dynamic power that will make the gate of hell to quiver. Unfortunately, not all words muttered in the name of praying actually amount to prayer. In a sense, prayer is an equivalence of some of the offerings made to God in the Old Testament; but we know from scriptures that God did not accept all offerings. That is to say not all prayers that people make ascend unto Him. We need to become like the disciples of old who realized their impotence in the place of prayer, and asked Jesus to teach them how to pray accurately.
In order to gain great results in prayer, we must learn to depend on God to give us the direction to go. Among other things, we need to come to a point where we wait on God to give us what to pray for, not just what we want. Look at an example in Zechariah 10:1 – “Ask ye of the LORD rain in the time of the latter rain; so the LORD shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field.” Similar scripture is found in the Psalms where we are asked to demand the nations for our inheritance. The Lord taught His disciples what to ask for; you can be sure that He will equally teach you – if you ask Him. Be assured that no prayer inspired by the Lord will go unanswered.
