In our previous meditation, we anchored Paul’s adorable life and ministry on two things – grace and perspective. There could be more, but these two factors played a major role in his life. Today, we will take the subject of perspective a little further, using another iconic figure in the Bible. Moses was a man described as mighty in words and deeds. Under his watch, he led an estimated two million people from slavery and settled them into a civil life in the wilderness. Though he was called and anointed by God, his success had external input. Someone had to help him gain the right perspective on administration.
Moses took on the unbearable burden of administering and judging the whole congregation. He would sit down to judge all the people every day! He saw nothing wrong in it. The two million people who crowded him daily with their problems equally saw nothing amiss. They were all like dwellers of the same apartment who had become one with the environment, including its peculiar odour which they could no longer detect, let alone detest. The coming of Jethro turned things around. The moment he saw the crowd around his son-in-law, he knew a disaster was looming, if nothing was done. He quickly raised an alarm. His alarm brought to the fore what Moses, with all his anointing, could not decipher. Sometimes, it will take an outsider to give us a better perspective on issues.
