The psalmist minced no words when he declared, “The Lord is on my side”. What a blessing to have the Lord on one’s side! The consciousness of God’s presence in a life puts fear in check. You can’t have God actively on your side and still be afraid. Fear comes in various forms and shapes. Some are afraid of the past; others dread the future. There are those who are afraid of death. Experts have grouped phobias into three categories – specific phobia, social phobia, and agoraphobia. Regardless of which category assaults, the knowledge of God’s presence is a panacea. In addition, our foes will flee when God is on our side. The Egyptians can attest to that. When God parted the Red Sea and the children of Israel walked through on dry ground, they tried to imitate them but that led to their ruin. “And He took off their chariot wheels, so that they drove them with difficulty; and the Egyptians said, “Let us flee from the face of Israel, for the Lord fights for them against the Egyptians.” Exodus 14:25 NKJV
Knowing that both fears and foes will flee when God is on our side, we should seek and cultivate divine presence.
Knowing that both fears and foes will flee when God is on our side, we should seek and cultivate divine presence. How do we secure God on our side at all times? Jesus gives us a clue in this verse: “And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him.” John 8:29 NKJV. Pleasing God in all our ways is the secret to enjoying His presence.
