What began as a loss to a family became a blessing in disguise. Kish had some of his asses missing, so he mandated his son Saul to look for them. Saul had for company one of his father’s servants. They must have searched about five different locations without success. Out of frustration and concern for how his father would be faring, he was ready to return home. Then his servant drew his attention to a prophet in that area. Worried that he had nothing to give to the man of God, the servant went ahead to volunteer the coin he had carried with him. This information paved the way for Saul to meet prophet Samuel who informed him that the asses had been found, and went on to anoint him as king over Israel.
It would be a personal disservice to look down on anyone. It is essential to treat everyone with respect and recognise their worth…It is high time we obeyed the injunction to honour all men.
In our previous meditation, we noted how a maid connected her boss with the prophet in Samaria. Another set of servants prevailed on him to obey the prophet before he got his cure. Today again, a servant was instrumental in connecting Saul with God’s purpose for his life. It would be a personal disservice to look down on anyone. It is essential to treat everyone with respect and recognise their worth. Those in lower positions, often overlooked or mistreated, deserve more credit than they receive. Without them, most eminent people would have their lives ground to a halt. It is high time we obeyed the injunction to honour all men.
