The First Love Assembly (formerly Revival Peoples’ Church) is 25 today! On that fateful day 25 years ago, we had our debut service at a dilapidated little warehouse at ‘Slaughter’, Rumuokoro, Port Harcourt, Nigeria. We had a makeshift choir hurriedly put together for the occasion. The altar’s backdrop was between the roof and the floor! Over the years, we moved a couple of times, but we can testify today that God has brought us into a large place. When I look back and remember that this journey began with a meagre two hundred thousand naira only (N200,000.00), I feel like singing with Donnie McClurkin – “We’ve come this far by faith/Leaning on the Lord/Trusting in His holy word/He never fail me yet”.
Towards the end of his illustrious career as Israel’s leader, Joshua attested to the faithfulness of the Lord. He discovered that all that the Lord spoke to Israel came to pass and I can relate to that.
Though finances were meagre at the beginning, God’s word and assurance for the journey were unmistakable.
He promised to see us through and provide for every need. He has done just that. When I consider all that the Lord has done, I shudder at what we could have missed if we did not follow His leadership. You cannot predict how your life will turn out until you learn to trust and obey Him fully. When God leads you on a course, human support may be low; but you must never forget that one with God is majority. Obeying the Lord will draw the needed finances and support along the line.
