I was newly enrolled in secondary school in 1974 when Marijohn Wilkin sang the song, “One Day at a Time.” The popularity of the song is easily attested to by the fact that over 200 artists have recorded the song. It has also reached the top of the chart in several places. For the record, here are a few lines from the song: “I’m only human, I’m just a woman/Help me believe in what I could be and all that I am/Show me the stairway, I have to climb/Lord for my sake, teach me to take one day at a time.” Writing in Prime Time with God on Friday September 20, 2019, Elmer L.Towns said, “God created humans to have daily needs; that way, they will depend on God and cry out daily to Him.” Chuck Swindoll said the hardest thing about the Christian life is that “it’s so daily”
Attempting to multitask for several days or months all at once is a recipe for unhappiness…the help we seek may come piecemeal, one day at a time, and only when it is needed.
Jesus gave credence to the daily approach to life. He taught us not to be anxious of tomorrow which, by design, will take care of itself. He wants us to grapple with the challenges that come with today while trusting Him for tomorrow. This same line of thought is reflected when He taught us to pray the Father to “give us this day our daily bread.” A daily approach to living is one great way to depressurize our lives. A lot of people are so stressed out because they attempt to carry the loads of several days in a single moment. God loads us daily with benefits! He guides us daily! Attempting to multitask for several days or months all at once is a recipe for unhappiness. Since the beginning of this month, we have stressed the need for divine help. It is good to close on this note: the help we seek may come piecemeal, one day at a time, and only when it is needed.
