Uzziah was a man who had direct experience of our caption – HELP FROM GOD. He was 16 years of age when he became king. Ordinarily, that was too young for such a position. However, when God is helping you, your natural disadvantage is not a disadvantage. Whatever shortfall he had because of his young age was compensated for by the help of God. We can categorize the help of God into two. Firstly, there is direct help from the Lord. Direct help includes the knowledge, wisdom, and understanding that God gives to a man or woman. Wisdom is the ability to handle life’s issues with skill for maximum advantage. Solomon was a beneficiary of God’s direct help. God gave him an uncanny insight into issues. It was not a happenstance that no war was recorded in the days of Solomon. Wisdom prevented battles!
“Anyone who wants to make progress must appreciate both the direct and indirect help of the Lord.”
Secondly, God’s help can come to us indirectly. Indirect help covers the people and opportunities that God surrounds us with. Look at the life of Uzziah again. The Bible gives his mother’s name as Jecoliah. That means “Jah will enable”. It is not hard to see that he enjoyed the tender care of a godly mother who set him on the right course early in life. Then you have the priest of the Lord, Zechariah, who instructed him in the vision of the Lord. Finally, Uzziah was surrounded by experts and professionals who helped to translate his ideas into reality. In the euphoria of our anniversary, I am reminded that we are here by both direct and indirect help of God. Some of the people who helped are no longer around, but that does not diminish their contribution. Anyone who wants to make progress must appreciate both the direct and indirect help of the Lord.
