I have had some vivid encounters that taught me that the Spirit does help us in our daily activities. Once, I did not know where I put my purse. I had in it all my ATM cards, driver’s license, Permanent voter’s card, and others. For about five days, I searched everywhere I could without success. We were deep in worship at our pastors’ meeting one morning when I heard the whisper of the Spirit, “Send someone to check the back pocket of the passenger’s seat of the Crosstour”. My purse was retrieved from the exact location that the Spirit pointed out. On another occasion, I was getting ready to travel to the United Kingdom. I already purchased my ticket and had my luggage packed, but then I couldn’t locate my international passport. In my frustration, I turned to the Lord in prayer. The Holy Spirit guided me to lift the case of an external drive on my shelf. I found the passport right there.
If you operate in the marketplace, the Holy Spirit can help you as much as a pastor mounting the pulpit on Sunday morning.
When Jesus promised to send us the Spirit, He did not discriminate as to when or where He will be available to help. He did not in any way suggest that the Spirit will be of help to us only in studying the Bible or help us to be well adjusted while a church service is going on. Help from the Spirit covers every area of life. He is to teach us new things as well as bring old things to remembrance. If we read the scripture in context, that means He is to help us with our daily activities. If you operate in the marketplace, the Holy Spirit can help you as much as a pastor mounting the pulpit on Sunday morning. I consider that the Holy Spirit is an under-utilized Helper. If we give Him attention and space, there will be no occasion to be stranded.
