Theology is defined as “the study of God and of God’s relation to the world.” Most times, our problems can be traced to incomplete or unbalanced theology. This is not a new phenomenon, the disciples of Jesus also suffered from it. When they saw a man who was born blind, they concluded it was because someone had sinned. Their theology subsumed all cases of human problems to be reward for some unknown sins. Jesus had to put their theology back on track.
It is an error of generalization to think that bad things happen to people solely because of the wrong they have committed…we should discard the immature way of placing labels on people prematurely.
It is an error of generalization to think that bad things happen to people solely because of the wrong they have committed. In a sense, bad things will follow sinful life but it is not in all cases. If this were a complete theology, we would have to ask what wrong Jesus committed to deserve such brutal treatment. From His testimony and the witness of Pilate, He did nothing worthy of death; but He died anyway. We need to come to terms that we live in a fallen world; and bad things are a part of the order here. That is why the Bible says we are looking for new heavens and a new earth where righteousness is the rule. In the meantime, we take grace to live pure and holy to minimize incidences of bad things. Moreover, we should bolster our confidence in the fact that whatever God permits, He can redeem for His glory and our blessing. Finally, we should discard the immature way of placing labels on people prematurely.
