We have devoted several of the past meditations to the fantastic ministries of the Holy Spirit. These many ministries are the reason we titled the meditations as INDISPENSABLE SPIRIT. Without the enormous influence of the Spirit, a believer will be a shadow of what true Christianity is. What is left to consider is how to tap into these ministries. In our text, we have veiled reference to what we must do to constantly enjoy the various dimensions of Holy Spirit’s work. Firstly, we have to look for Him! While Jesus was recommending the Holy Spirit to the disciples, He told them that the world would not benefit from His activities because it is not looking for Him. The rule of scripture is that we find what we look for. If you are not consciously looking for the Spirit, you cannot enjoy what He has to offer. That was why the first condition that the disciples had to fulfill before they were baptized in the Holy Spirit was to wait.
“Without the enormous influence of the Spirit, a believer will be a shadow of what true Christianity is.”
Not only is the world not looking for the Holy Spirit, it actually doesn’t recognize Him. As long as this holds true, the ministry of the Spirit will remain elusive to the world. Therefore, the second thing we must do is to constantly recognize the Holy Spirit. There are several angles to this. We are to recognize Him in terms of existence. Just as much as we believe in the reality of the Father and of His Son Jesus, we must equally subscribe to the reality of the Spirit. Those who would enjoy the Spirit must know that He is, and that He is a Helper of those who look for Him. In addition to subscribing to His reality, we must daily confess our need of Him. Everyday must be punctuated with affirmations of His roles in our lives.
