Ahaziah succeeded Ahab, his father. Bible account shows that he had a domestic accident that left him seriously injured. He was so apprehensive about his health and future that he sent to Baal-Zebub the god of Ekron. He wanted to know if he would survive. The messengers had not got the chance to deliver their errand when the angel of the Lord sent Elijah to denounce the king. God’s angst was that the king abandoned Him as the true source of information and the controller of the future for a lesser god. The verdict was that he would not survive the illness. He died shortly after.
“God is not only jealous; His name is Jealous as well!… I like the one that says to be jealous is to be “intolerant of rivalry or unfaithfulness”. God will not accommodate a rival.”
What happened here was that the jealous nature of God kicked in. God did not hide it from the people the fact that He is jealous! Take a look at Exodus 34:14 – “For thou shalt worship no other god: for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:” (KJV). Look at that again for confirmation. God is not only jealous; His name is Jealous as well! The dictionary gives several ideas of what it means to be jealous. I like the one that says to be jealous is to be “intolerant of rivalry or unfaithfulness”. God will not accommodate a rival. It is either Him alone or not at all. The world is gradually being sucked into the occult. The occult promises to provide safe landing for the future. It is all deception. God’s word already warned that there should be no palm readers or necromancers among his people. Attempt to put the security of our future into the hands of the occult is recipe for trouble.
