It is easy to assume that once God leads to a place or thing, it would be a smooth sail. Such an assumption has no warrant from the scriptures. Sometimes, it is actually when God is in a thing that the devil begins to throw dust. God assured Abram when he got to Canaan, the Promised Land, that the it would be given to him and his descendants. However, what did our text say? There was a famine in the land. That seemed contrary to the picture that God painted for Abram. It reminds me of the famine that took place in Bethlehem-Judah. The name of the city means “the house of bread”. Imagine that there was no bread in the house of bread!
Here is the good news: whenever there is a contradiction between what is and what God has promised, it would be resolved in favour of God’s counsel. If you are in your God-ordained place and there are difficulties, just remember it is only for a brief season. God will never ask you to go to a place or do some things and abandon you when problems surface. The temptation that many people face is hurrying out of their lot because of temporary adversity. Momentary difficulties should not be the basis for permanent decisions. Believers must be confident that even if weeping endures for a night, joy is bound to come in the morning.
