I first got introduced to the idea of D-I-Y (Do-It-Yourself) on one of my trips to Dublin, Ireland. After we concluded the seminar at the church, my host took me to a D-I-Y shop. The idea behind D-I-Y is to set up whatever you buy without any direct help from experts or professionals. I later noticed the variant of the concept at filling stations in other developed nations. Most petrol stations are not manned by an attendant. Customers drive by, make purchases and pay with credit or debit card. Everything is fully automated.
“Our learning and expertise will come to nothing without the critical God factor…Truly, it is not in any of us; it is only by the help of God that we can pull through anything.”
While D-I-Y may be a wonderful idea in the business world, it would be a disaster to adopt the same thing in God’s kingdom. Businesses run on this concept can save the cost of hiring so many people. Managing cost is boosting profit. However, we are dealing with a different set of realities when we talk of the kingdom of God. Without mincing words, Jesus told the disciples that they could do nothing by themselves. By extension, we also can do nothing if left to our own devices. The setup in the kingdom is such that we will need to connect with the heavenly grace to achieve anything meaningful here on earth. It will interest you to know that even Jesus stated that He could do nothing of Himself. He needed to wait on the Father for His every move. Our learning and expertise will come to nothing without the critical God factor. As you commence another month, don’t trust in the arm of flesh. Rather, make the Spirit of God your strength and stay. When Joseph was seen as the almighty solution to all riddles, he simply said “it is not in me”. Truly, it is not in any of us; it is only by the help of God that we can pull through anything.
