Eternal truths can be communicated to us by God’s Spirit in seemingly awkward places. I experienced one at a Barber’s shop. The clock on the wall was reading about 11:45 am. A woman entered, with a baby strapped to her back and holding another with one hand. In her company also was a young lady who should be in her late teens, who seemed to be an intern. The woman introduced her team and their mission. “We are Jehovah’s Witnesses, may we come in?” Before one of the shop owners could respond, they made their way in and began to give out their message, almost by rote. Sitting on the swerving chair, I began to think of several things. For all we know, the doctrines of this sect do not align with those of historic Christianity. They do not subscribe to the doctrine of Trinity, because they take Jesus as the highest of created beings, not the Creator. There are several other major areas of departure. Yet this woman dutifully kept to what she had learned and was eagerly giving it to others.
It has been noted that the only thing needed for error to spread is for truth to keep silent. If we don’t let our light shine, darkness will indeed reign…If we shine like stars that we are, we can woo the world back to God.
My mind went to those who have the truth of the gospel but do nothing about it. It has been noted that the only thing needed for error to spread is for truth to keep silent. If we don’t let our light shine, darkness will indeed reign. It is ironic that error seems to spread faster than the truth; but we can reverse that trend if we wake up to our responsibility. Believers should come to a resolve not to allow their light to be hidden anymore. Each of us is like a little star. Several of these stars dotting the sky is a beauty to behold. If we shine like stars that we are, we can woo the world back to God. It’s time we became true witnesses for God. It’s time we brought our light out from under the table.
