Pain is indeed a thorny theological issue. Many wonder how God, with avowed love for mankind, will at the same time allow pain in life. Strange as it may sound, pain has its place in man’s affairs and destiny. God’s timing for some actions towards destiny may be announced by pain. Generally speaking, pain can be seen as nature’s announcer. When your toe hurts, it is simply telling you something needs attention. Pain could be a signal to spiritual timing. This is the point that our passage of Scripture is laying emphasis on. As a woman approaches her expected day of delivery, the pain she feels intensifies. The pain is not in any way destructive; it only prepares her towards a new life that is imminent.
“Pain could be a signal to spiritual timing…When you feel pain, look beyond it…It is time to begin to prepare for the next phase that God is bringing you into.”
This metaphor can be seen clearly demonstrated in the case of the bondage that the children of Israel were in. As the time of deliverance approached the pain inflicted by Egypt seemed to double. It is often said that the darkest hour of the night is an indication that the morning light is close. When a child of God is going through pain not due to sin, an aspect of destiny may be at the point of birth. Israel, a collection of slaves, passed through their moment of intense pain to become an indomitable nation. When you feel pain, look beyond it. Ask the Lord to show you what the pain is signaling. A wise, expectant mother shoves aside pain and begins to make ready for delivery. It is time to begin to prepare for the next phase that God is bringing you into.
