In his book, “The Road Less Travelled”, M. Scott Peck said, “Love is an action, an
activity”. To the extent that love is an activity, it can both be seen and measured.
Genuine love is not about feeling; it is tangible. It was in this light that Paul challenged
the Church at Corinth to “show…the proof of your love”. If you can’t prove your love, it
simply means it doesn’t exist. Some want to feel before they love; but it is actually the
other way around. We start loving by action, and then our feelings will follow.
It is high time you re-evaluated your love by checking your giving life.
What then are actions of love? Let us begin with how God loves us. “For God so loved
the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not
perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16, NKJV). God demonstrated His love for
humanity by giving His dearest and the costliest, even His only begotten Son. Nothing
can replace giving as proof of love. It has been said that you can give without loving, but
you cannot love without giving. If you love your neighbours, you will give to them. In the
same way, if you truly love God; you give to Him. Do you wonder how one can give to
God who is invisible? When you give to the cause of God and His Kingdom, you are
giving to God. And when you give to God’s people, you give to Him. When Paul charged
the Corinthians to show the proof of their love, it was said in the context of giving. The
entire chapter of 2 Corinthians 8 is about giving. It is high time you re-evaluated your
love by checking your giving life.
