I once met a newspaper vendor at the American Consulate, Lagos, Nigeria. It was before the introduction of the drop-box arrangement. I believe that he had plied that place for a long time as he had become accustomed to what the embassy required from the applicants. So he takes to lecturing them on arranging their documents and comporting themselves during the interview. Possibly, he has not travelled out of the country before. He mixes his presentation with wits and humour and sends the audience into bouts of laughter. Many people end up buying papers from him. You could tell that he loved his work. Napoleon Hill said, “If you cannot do great things, do small things in a great way”. The man was truly doing small things in a great way.
Apostle Paul was elated when talking about his calling. He was an apostle to the Gentiles and was quite happy and proud of it. He not only loved his work but staked his life for it. Success in life is not determined by whether we have a white collar-job or a blue collar-job. Success comes when we appreciate what we are called to do and pursue it with passion. Any worker who is always unhappy at work is probably in the wrong job. Your work should not just be a means of livelihood but fun as well.
