There are several fascinating things about the Ethiopian eunuch whose story is found in Acts 8. We are first drawn to his devotion. It was devotion that took him to Jerusalem. Verse 28 tells us his mission to Jerusalem – it was for worship. Though he knew little or nothing about the way of salvation, his heart was yearning for the true and living God. Further proof of his devotion could be seen in the attention he gave to the reading of the scriptures on his return journey. The second fascinating thing about him was his sincerity. When asked if he understood what he was reading, he readily admitted his ignorance. Finally, we have his humility and wisdom in asking for help when he invited Philip to sit with him in the chariot. As a further demonstration of wisdom, he asked a question about who the passage of the scripture was talking about.
…our efforts may never be enough, they will suffice for an acceptable minimum for God to step in. God rewards efforts.
The combination of all these was that Philip guided him to the way of salvation. The salient point here is that although our efforts may never be enough, they will suffice for an acceptable minimum for God to step in. God rewards efforts. He wants us to show sincerity and humility. When all these things are in place, He knows how to fill in whatever blank spaces that remain.
