During the last Sunday service in June, one of the brothers in our Lagos church testified of God’s saving hand. He had collapsed two Sundays earlier during worship. He also recalled of how he escaped the bomb blast in Abuja some years before. His testimony reminded me of another pastor who I met at a funeral service. He first narrated his salvation experience under my pastorate in the nineties. Then he went on to detail the miraculous escape he and his family members had when a Dana flight from Abuja crashed on the descent to Lagos airport on Sunday June 3, 2012. The plane crashed into his premises and destroyed everything except the lives of his family members. Their saving grace was the extra time they spent in church that day. They were mandated to wait for some meetings after worship.
“The best way to activate the protective hedge of God is to be where He wants us to be at the right time.”
These two testimonies bring to light the power of our text. Escapes from death are the handiwork of God. Jesus taught us how much the heavenly Father cares. His care is so detailed that the hairs on our heads are numbered. He cares for us more than the birds of the air. The best way to activate the protective hedge of God is to be where He wants us to be at the right time. In addition, pursuing God’s purpose for our lives is a major key to safety.
