After settling the expenses of our Lagos church anniversary, the purse was literally empty. I informed the resident pastor that every other thing must wait because of paucity of funds. Few hours after that, one of our leaders transferred the tithe of their company to the church account. It was in excess of a million. Suddenly, we moved from nothing to surplus. It is of interest that the transfer did not come on a fellowship day, but at the close of business on Monday. That again reiterated the fact that our supplies are not tied to a particular day of the week; it is within God’s power to send blessings any day of the week. It also confirms the iconic words of one of God’s generals of years gone by, that God’s work done by His servant in His way, place and time will never ever lack supplies.
The story of Jonah is a familiar one. God gave him a mission to Nineveh, but he chose to go to Tarshish instead. Our text reveals some important truths. By choosing Tarshish over Nineveh, Jonah was said to have fled “from the presence of the Lord”. Was God not in Tarshish? The point is this: whenever anyone is away from the place of their mission, it is as good as being away from the presence of the Lord. The key to enjoying the uninterrupted presence of the Lord is being where He wants us to be every single moment. Take note again that the text says Jonah “paid the fare”. If you go to a place, He has not sent you or do what He did not authorize, you have to fund it yourself. God will take care of the supply end when the mission you are involved with is from Him.
