The Bible described Jesus as a Man of Sorrow. Many things prove that this was not a frivolous description. He was not only physically abused, but He was railed at and mocked. Jesus endured scoffing on a number of occasions. At Jairus’ house when He declared that his daughter was not dead but asleep, they mocked Him. When they hung Him on the Cross, He was derided as well. He warned that His disciples should brace themselves for such treatment. Peter informed us that believers will be scoffed at in the last days. There are two areas we can expect this. Firstly, in areas where our faith has not produced the tangible results we hoped for. This will give unbelievers the opportunity to ask, “Where is your God?”
“We must be free from the pollution in the world and be spotless when He comes.”
Secondly, scoffers will mock the idea of Jesus coming back to the earth. They think the second coming is a hoax. They would reason that since Christ departed, everything has been following the same pattern and nothing is about to change. We must not fall for their sarcasm. God is keeping a tab on His Son’s return but is giving ample time to humanity to repent and avoid imminent judgment. Our hope is that when Christ comes, we who believe and have been washed of our sins, will be like Him. This blessed hope places a responsibility on us. We must be free from the pollution in the world and be spotless when He comes.
