Premier Inn, where I lodged, was within the precinct of London Heathrow Terminal 4. It is barely 10 minutes walk. As short a distance as that might appear, it could be a Herculean task for people with luggage or those straddling a toddler around them.
Probably, to help overcome possible fatigue and discouragement, the management put encouraging messages at short intervals. The first of them reads, “You are 120m to warm welcome”. At 100m, you have a message notifying you about “a seriously tasty
breakfast”. Other messages to spice customers’ interest include totally free Wi-fi, a refreshing shower, and a super-comfy Hypnos bed. All through the short journey, there is something to cheer you on.
“Believers must learn to draw inspiration from God’s word if they must overcome discouragement.”
It is often said that children have short attention spans. I think the interest span of adults is equally short. Unless there is something to sustain interest, what began with high enthusiasm may soon peter out. The children of Israel under Moses sang and celebrated when they left Egyptian captivity. The journey soon appeared interminably long, and the roads treacherous. So they opted to return to bondage. This brings to the fore the place of encouragement. Believers must learn to draw inspiration from God’s word if they must overcome discouragement. They must heavily rely on the promises of God and draw strength from the grace which the Spirit freely supplies. Finally, we should remain on track because God has no pleasure in those who draw back.
