A glorious destiny does not happen by chance – it requires intentional effort. Our previous meditation touched on the importance of laying aside anxiety. This is one of the things that will impact on the future. A life of anxiety is prone to illnesses. You cannot be weighed down by sickness and disease and lay claim to a glorious life. Our text highlights additional factors to take into consideration in order to walk the path of glory. When crisis was brewing about food distribution in the early church, the disciples said, “It is not desirable that we should leave the word of God and serve tables.” They realised early the importance of avoiding distractions. If you are distracted, you cannot excel. A life of excellence requires sorting out priorities at every phase. The disciples realised that no one makes any significant impact by chasing every idea.
A life of anxiety is prone to illnesses…A life of excellence requires sorting out priorities at every phase…You cannot make significant progress in anything that you are not fully devoted to.
The second principle we see in the disciples is the power of delegation. They did not consider food distribution unnecessary, only that it was not for them. So they asked that that be handled by other people. That led to the selection of seven deacons. Since you cannot handle everything, you must learn to entrust certain things to others. Finally, we see that focus is cardinal to a successful life. They chose to give themselves to prayer and the ministry of the word. You cannot make significant progress in anything that you are not fully devoted to.
