It is a common practice at the end of the game of football or other sports for victorious sportsmen to throw their wears into the stand. Such practice often leaves fans scampering for it. Most often, the ticket they bought to watch the game is several times the cost of the shirt. So, why do people risk losing a limb to catch it? The scarcity of it is one reason. Out of thousands of people in the stadium, only one person will get it. Its rarity immediately creates a unique value for it. Some of those who get such paraphernalia simply keep them as a memento. Others allow time to pass over it and probably take it for auction. Either for memento or economic reason, those who get such things are usually full of excitement.
Our passage of Scripture makes it plain that the Holy Spirit filled all who were in the upper room on the day of Pentecost. All believers can partake of the gift of God…Our excitement as believers should never dip because of the sweet Holy Spirit dwelling in us.
Believers have a different, better reason to be excited. Jesus the Captain of our salvation has won the victory. Not only that, He sent down to us the precious Holy Spirit after He had ascended into heaven. There is an immeasurable difference between what sports’ champions throw to fans and what Jesus sent down to us. Firstly, of the thousands of people who watched the games, only one person will get the shirt. Our passage of Scripture makes it plain that the Holy Spirit filled all who were in the upper room on the day of Pentecost. All believers can partake of the gift of God. Secondly, the shirt will probably fetch the handler a few dollars down the years, but the Holy Spirit gives us access to things that cannot be computed in monetary terms. Above all, He guides us into glory by and by. Our excitement as believers should never dip because of the sweet Holy Spirit dwelling in us.
