The world never runs out of ideas for making disgraceful things sound glamorous. For example, there is a group called “ethical non-monogamous’. This cute-sounding expression cunningly describes extra-marital sexual relationships by members with the full knowledge of their spouses. Gracie belongs to this community and justifies her participation. According to her, “Having sex outside my marriage make me a fabulous mother. Anything that keeps me happy and gives me energy makes me a better mother”. She further claimed that her choice to be polyamorous is because it helps to cure the monotony of monogamy.
People with this sort of persuasion will quickly remind us what God’s word says about sin. When Gracie claimed that sex with other partners makes her happy, she could be right. The Bible never denies the fact that sin is pleasurable. The problem, however, as seen from our text of Scripture is that the pleasure of sin is temporal. We should remember that what makes us happy could eventually make us sad. The rich man in Jesus’ teaching was happy on earth but was not happy in eternity. It is foolishness to enjoy the pleasures of sin here for a short time and end up in torment forever.
