In November of last year, I was invited to speak at a church convention. Being unfamiliar with the location, we decided to use GPS. It gave some zig-zag directions before bringing us to where we could have taken a straight course. Such is the way of this technology sometimes. If you are unlucky, the route chosen for you may be much longer than usual.
“The Spirit of God can do both. He knows the way and He has the power to preserve you in your journey. With Him in your vessel you will reach the harbour safely.”
Good enough, God has not left His children to wander around this world. His provision for our guidance is more effective than the best technology can offer. God has not left our guidance to a mere device; our guidance is in the hand of the Holy Spirit, the Third Person in the Godhead. This is vividly stated in our passage today. Being led by the Spirit is a pointer to the fact that we are the sons of God. As with other devices by man, the GPS has its drawbacks, one of which is that it can only tell you how to get to where you want to go; it is powerless to keep you in the way. The Spirit of God can do both. He knows the way and He has the power to preserve you in your journey. With Him in your vessel you will reach the harbour safely.
