If you are looking for inspiration for authentic leadership, look in the direction of Nehemiah. I have always considered him a big inspiration. This admiration stems from the sacrifice he made by leaving his comfort zone to rally people together for the rebuilding of the walls in Jerusalem. He demonstrated what effective, servant-leader means. Beside this, Nehemiah knew that God has a reward system in place; and he never hesitated to ask God for it. For every noble act he did he asked God to remember him. You have this in our passage, and in Nehemiah 13:22. As a matter of fact the book closed with the same request. Nehemiah 13:30-31 notes, “Thus I cleansed them of everything pagan. I also assigned duties to the priests and the Levites, each to his service, and to bringing the wood offering and the firstfruits at appointed times. Remember me, O my God, for good!” You can be sure that if you ask God to remember you for the good deeds you have done, He will not ask for your head. To do otherwise is to fail to understand the principles of the Kingdom of God.
When you know that the time is due, it is to motivate you to action…If by the revelation of the Spirit or of scripture you sense this is your reward season, do what Nehemiah did. Ask God to remember your labour in the kingdom and bring you a due reward.
In our previous meditation, we learned how to determine divine timing. What to add is that knowing the time is not an end in itself; it is a means to an end. When you know that the time is due, it is to motivate you to action. Accordingly, when Daniel realized that the time for the captivity to end was near, he took to praying. If by the revelation of the Spirit or of scripture you sense this is your reward season, do what Nehemiah did. Ask God to remember your labour in the kingdom and bring you a due reward.
