In our previous meditation, we outlined some principles for decision-making. Let us be clear on one thing – God is still in the business of guiding people. If we are open to Him, He can guide us to make decisions that will both honour Him and advance our cause. In guiding us, God can employ a wide variety of ways. It is an error to insist that God must show up in a revelation or some other pre-conceived way. More often than not, the moment an individual insists on a particular method of communication, he or she is not likely to receive it that way.
Regardless of the means God chooses, His word will remain a primary tool. When He told Joseph to leave with his family for Egypt, he was to be “…there until I bring thee word.” So God guides by His word. Never take any guidance as authentic except it lines up with the principles of the word of God. The Palmist proclaims that “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105). He may convey His plan to us through dreams and visions, inner witness or prevailing circumstances. Sometimes, God guides us through counsel from mature and wise believers. But the bottom line is that His word remains the umpire. Here is wisdom: stay where God asked you to be, doing the last thing He asked you to be doing until He brings you another word. If you are faithful to the last instructions, He will come through for you again.
