Successful people do more than rely on luck. One common denominator of successful people is quality decisions. David decided to bring the ark of God back to Judah because, according to him, they had “not inquired at it since the days of Saul.” Well, that shows the level of spiritual decay in the land before David. It implies that God had no input in Saul’s decisions, particularly in his later days. Acting without deference to God is a sign of backsliding.
We have several lessons to learn from David regarding decision-making. Firstly, choices and decisions that have corporate importance must have the input of others. That was what David did. The ark was not about him and his family but about God and His people, Israel. Accordingly, he involved key leaders in that decision. Secondly, we must ensure that the choice, both in its present circumstance and likely outcome, is not only good but approved by God. Something could be good to us, and not good to the Lord. In fact, a spiritually minded person will not refuse to act even when a thing is not good to him but good to the Lord.
