Repentance holds the key to all round transformation. When people hear of the word “repent” their mind thinks of someone who has committed some heinous sins – fornication, stealing, abortion, murder, and so on. We don’t make light of those. As a matter of fact, the Bible says such things should no longer be mentioned among believers. However, repentance is wider in application than just confession of sins. From its Greek root, it means to think differently or to reconsider. Note that thinking differently is the beginning of acting differently.
The mind is where thoughts are processed. Until that faculty is reformatted by the word and Spirit of God, believers cannot inherit what God has in store for them.
The story of the prodigal son is covered in Luke 15. He once thought that life would be good if he had liberty from his father’s control and had access to huge some of money. He got what he wanted, but life became a mirage for him. The next thing that he did was to repent. In other words, he thought differently from how he thought in the beginning. ““But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.” ’”Repentance ended his servitude and restored him to his rightful position as a son. Yesterday, we observed that the bane of many believers is their mind. The mind is where thoughts are processed. Until that faculty is reformatted by the word and Spirit of God, believers cannot inherit what God has in store for them.
