My 63rd birthday was barely 11 days ago. Though I did not plan for anything elaborate, the magnitude of goodwill messages and prayers got me quite emotional. The calls and text messages were simply overwhelming. Two other times in the year when I get swamped by messages are Easter and Christmas. While I desire to reply to every goodwill message, I usually fall short. I would typically get started replying people until I get overwhelmed and throw in the towel. There is always a gap between intention and execution. The spirit may indeed be willing while the flesh is weak one way or another.

What a relief to know that as children we are never a burden to God! We can find rest from cruel labours in Him.

However, when dealing with God, there is no gap between what He desires to do and what He does. The reason is that He is unlimited in time, wisdom, and power. He is omnipotent by nature, and so it is impossible for Him to be tired. If all the world makes their petitions of Him at once, it wouldn’t border Him. This was the message that God sent to His people through the prophet Isaiah. This is why the writer of Hebrews encourages us to always come boldly to the throne of grace to get the help we need. What a relief to know that as children we are never a burden to God! We can find rest from cruel labours in Him.
